Curt Anderson, October 2007 Many managers still disregard time- and risk-value principles when evaluating projects and initiatives. They look at quarterly and yearly accounting measures, such as EPS, ROE and ROA, instead of looking more closely at economic measures such as ROIC. The main arguments against these accounting measures are that the profit-based measures show the historical amount of the investment as reflected in the balance sheet and that none of them show any link to the market values of the companies concerned. The goal of this white paper is to shed some light on the issue and to encourage companies to utilize NPV in their strategic projects and financial controlling systems.

Harald Matzke, November 2006 Most companies use tools for planning and analysis as well as scorecards to monitor operational KPIs for delivering accurate, timely information to support short and medium-term goals. E.F. Codd, S.B. Codd, C.T. Salley, March 2002 Recently, there has been a great deal of discussion in the trade press and elsewhere regarding the coexistence of so-called transaction databases with decision support systems. These discussions usually revolve around the argument that the physical design required for acceptable performance of each is incompatible and that therefore, data should be stored redundantly in multiple enterprise databases: one for transaction processing and the other for decision support type activities.
